British schools should celebrate religious holidays other than Christianity?
The local school for my child to celebrate many more religious celebrations and I am very happy about this, because it is to teach my child to respect other peoples religions. But last October I was surprised when I learned that my daughters teacher had been warned to decorate your classroom for Halloween. Apparently it was offensive to other religions. How can it be acceptable when my child is participating in other religious activities outside their own education? Any ideas? The UK has gone bananas?
I think you should notify your school that is a Hallow'een) a Christian festival (All Hallow's Eve or Halloween) or b) the pagan festival of Samhain, the beginning of the Celtic New Year and a time where the veil between worlds is held to be thin, and the honor of ancestors. It could be very offended by this because it is one of the biggest festivals celebrating as Wiccans. Remember that these things only work one way – your children must learn that other major religions, but their culture (ieHallow'een, ignoring the Religion is a fun time for kids today) is not acceptable – political correctness gone mad.
