The ultra-Orthodox are back in all his statements about the evolution of the Lubavitch / Chabad Hasidic sect. They are surprised that many members can have a mishichist (messianic) turn to his theology. Apparently, when the MM Schneerson, Rebbe, who died there were probably a minority, which has not accepted its death. They assumed he was the Messiah will appear in the streets of Jerusalem on a white S500 Mercedes. Even if the arrival in a Mercedes would not necessarily be politically correct, the fact that he was the Messiah means that history will be reviewed. In fact, its arrival (assuming Schneerson is the House of David) is to restore the glory of Israel and all Jews will return.

It's a fantastic and utterly believable story – if you believe in a personal Messiah as outlined by the Rambam (Maimonides) and others. What surprises me is the same people who question the claims of mishichistim (Messianic) believe in the myth of a personal Messiah. If you believe in personal Mashiach (Messiah), then there is not much of a leap of faith to believe in Mr. Shneerson as the incarnation of the Messiah. Why not? They are both rooted in faith.

The Faith is a powerful tool and can be used for good or evil men. It can be used and exploited by cult leaders or personal ambitions for the greater glory of mankind. The Jewish people claim to have survived through the ages because they are based on faith. They believed that no matter how bad it is, there is, at the end of this dark tunnel, a savior. That actually sounds like a story he would tell his children. But that is exactly what they were – children, emotionally and intellectually less sophisticated than they are today. After all, it was their parents and grandparents who lived through the generation of concentration camps and gas chambers in Europe. There was no Messiah here to save an entire continent of Jews killed. One of maintaining this type of faith is really a blind faith – the kind of faith waiting for a dog, even after his master that he abused the non-stop from the day he entered his life. Ask employment, better yet, read. Can not drop the image of the Messiah, because when the Jews are without hope?

In this world there are two kinds of people: the disciples and leaders. The disciples are those who live in hope, the kind you need a rabbi to think for themselves – the persons engaged for retirement, never take an independent measure, never discovering the larger world of people and ideas. They are fatalistic, a "Hashem hachol beyedei" (all in the hands of God) say that after every sentence he says, a "Baruch Hashem, a" (thank God), as if not able to do what they did without help. Then there are the leaders. They tend to be a bit disrespectful, because they can not think for themselves. They are the builders who are not of hope – people who call their own businesses, entrepreneurs and independent spirit. They do not fatalistic, but deterministic, who prefer to take risks based on the original grain.

The Zionists of the European 19th and 20th century were of this second category. There is an old parable in Pirkei Avot  "Eiza Hakham hu? Haroeh hanolod is that the wise man is one who can predict the future or Intuit. They saw the writing on the wall and anti-Semitism in Europe were not prepared to wait for the mythical Messiah on the scene and do some Kadabra "Open". Then there were the fans, those who have faith, that were determined to wait, because that's what their rabbis told them to do. He never had true faith, which means you have some belief in yourself, to be able to validate the ideas and thoughts. How can you be creative, to contribute to society and build a community if no faith in yourself? To give just a crazy leader. History attests.

So what is the difference between those who agree MM Schneerson the Messiah and those seeking mishichistim these pariahs? In truth, there's really no difference. Both groups fall under the category of my first build. The mishichistim and anti – mishichistim favor. The MM mishichistim believe Schneerson is the Messiah, and another group of followers believe in their gedolim (SMART). Anyway, they lost because they have relinquished their independence and ability to think critically.

There is another aspect to consider. Anti-mishichistim not only as faithful as mishichistim but dishonest with themselves. The resistance to M. Schneerson as Hopea "Â last great" is the realization that if he really is the Messiah, then the Jewish community will have to make great sacrifices (ie, move to Israel) who are unwilling to do. Accept the Messiah is a heavy burden for a quick look at the writings of Maimonides (Mishneh Torah, Hilkot Melachim, chap. 11) can attest.

The mishichistim are ahead of the game and perhaps should be admired. Despite bearing the stigma of being followers, who are dealing with and showing some good children's creativity. Perhaps they are new beginning for a new group: mishichistim. What is now your cross "Chevlai read" (pains childbirth). At worst, if not Mr. Pan Schneerson as the Messiah, perhaps we can recommend to the membership Ibburim (spirits who had just died).

John Huston adapted the first 22 chapters of the Book of Genesis in this mostly silly film that takes us from Creation through Noah's Ark through Abraham's near-sacrifice of son Isaac. This is one of Huston's more personally distant projects, à la Annie or Victory; and for the most part you'd barely know there was even a director involved. On the other hand, Huston does provide some of the only l...

What the Bleep Do We Know!? What the Bleep Do We Know!?
$7.00

The unlikeliest cult hit of 2004 was What the (Bleep) Do We Know?, a lecture on mysticism and science mixed into a sort-of narrative. Marlee Matlin stars in the dramatic thread, about a sourpuss photographer who begins to question her perceptions. Interviews with quantum physics experts and New Age authors are cut into this story, offering a vaguely convincing (and certainly mind-provoking) theory...
