Why should we try to suppress religion in modern society?

When I try to talk to people about whether or not the company is a bad thing to modern societies like the USA Europe and then the number of arguments that can be makeup. Let me stress that this is only for countries developed countries, where religion causes violence just between people. Can anyone suggest some good? The more the better:)
